Materials and Methods: It is a descriptive-cross-sectional study that determines the variables with the most information related to the event of an adverse event; It was carried out in three stages: 1. Search and collection of variables from the literature, 2. Evaluation and selection of tentative variables from articles with other professionals and group discussion, 3. Final screening with medical records test. Results: In the test, 13 representative variables related to adverse event were defined. The variables with the highest occurrence were: non-completion of treatment, withdrawal or abandonment of treatment, and debonding of appliances cemented in the mouth, they occurred in 78.1%, 53.1%, and 43.7% of the cases, respectively. Conclusions: The importance of strengthening the security policy, risk assessment and notification was evidenced in the literature; Additionally, three variables derived from the patient, one from the clinician or operator, two from the medical device or equipment, and seven from the clinical administrative area were found in the event of the adverse event. Resumen: Objetivo: El objetivo del presente estudio es proponer un grupo de variables que podrían ser consideradas cuando se estudian los eventos adversos, a partir de historias clínicas de la atención de pacientes menores de edad en clínicas de ortodoncia universitarias. Materiales y Métodos: Es un estudio descriptivo-transversal que determina las variables con mayor información relacionadas con el suceso de evento adverso; se realizó en tres etapas: 1. Búsqueda y colección de variables desde la literatura, 2. Evaluación y selección de variables tentativas de artículos con otros profesionales y discusión grupal, 3. Tamizaje final con prueba de historias clínicas. Resultados: En la prueba, se definieron 13 variables representativas relacionadas con evento adverso. Las variables de mayor ocurrencia fueron¬¬: no finalización de tratamiento, retiro o abandono de tratamiento y desalojo de los aparatos cementados en boca, se presentaron en 78,1%, 53,1% y 43,7% de los casos respectivamente. Conclusiones: Se evidenció en la literatura la importancia del fortalecimiento de la política de seguridad, evaluación y notificación de riesgos; adicionalmente, se encontró en el acontecimiento del evento adverso tres variables derivadas del paciente, una variable del clínico u operador, dos del dispositivo o equipo médico y siete del área administrativa clínica.
