| Sumario: | Introduction: Several methods are currently available to estimate dental age, such as The London Atlas and the Cameriere method, however, a comparation of these two methods has not been performed in colombian population. Objetive: The objetive of this study was to compare the precisión of two methods of estimation of dental age, open ápex measurement (Cameriere) and London Dental Development Atlas, in a group of Colombian children. Materials and Methods: It is a retrospective cross-sectional study, on 246 digital panoramic radiographs, 97 men and 149 women between 6 and 14 years old patients from the Faculty of Dentistry of a iniversity in Bogotá- Colombia, in the period 2015-2020, estimated the age for each of the methods, compared with the chronological age and the age estimated by each method werw obtained, to make a comparison between the means and obtain the differences and determine if the age was overestimated or underestimated. Results: the mean difference between the chronological age and the age estimated by the London Atlas method was. -0,054 years, the difference not being significant (P 0.05). The mean difference between the chronological age and the age estimated with the Cameriere method was -0.188 yearrs, this difference being significant (P 0.05). Conclusions: London Atlas was more precise in estimating dental age in this group of the Colombian population. However, it is recommended to take precautions since the only tooth to be evaluated by the Atlas method is third molar. |
