Summary: | This thesis aims to design a prototype agrotourism farm in Llanitos village, Rivera, Huila,
integrating cacao production with tourism activities to stimulate local economic development and
improve the quality of life for its inhabitants. Historically recognized for its cacao production,
Rivera has experienced a decline in agricultural competitiveness due to several factors, including
land-use changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which prompted many cacao farms to shift
to recreational tourism. This project seeks to reverse that trend by strengthening farmers'
capacities through the implementation of the OVOP (One Village, One Product) methodology,
which has proven successful in other regions of the world and focuses on the valorization of local
products in Colombia.
The agrotourism farm has the potential to diversify the community's income sources by
combining the tourist experience with agricultural production, capitalizing on the growing
interest in rural tourism and the demand for organic and sustainable products. This proposal aims
not only to revitalize cacao production in Rivera but also to contribute to environmental
preservation, poverty reduction, and the inclusion of vulnerable groups, such as women and
young people.
This approach aligns with initiatives such as The Cocoa Effect, an international project
implemented in Huila that aims to improve productivity, strengthen cacao value chains, and
promote long-term economic and environmental sustainability.
The implementation of this model could position Rivera as a reference for high-quality
cacao production and sustainable tourism development, attracting both national and international
investment and fostering territorial governance based on inclusive and sustainable development
models. |
