Summary:This document provides a comparative analysis of the development of the rice sector in Brazil and Colombia, with the objective of identifying key factors that position Brazil as an agricultural power in the rice sector in Latin America. The study covered the main principles of Michael Porter's competitive advantage, such as economies of scale, location, institutional factors, logistics infrastructure, vertical annexes and other aspects that influence the development and competitive advantage of a country. The analysis highlights the importance of implementing new technologies and cultivation methods, which is what has largely made Brazil more efficient and sustainable in this field, thus having an advantage in the region. On the other hand, Colombia faces important challenges by not having easy access to these tools, which limits its ability to compete. The methodology used was based on the analysis of secondary sources, with the support of statistical data and previous studies. The results highlight that Brazil has achieved optimized competitiveness thanks to its investment in technology, policies to support the agricultural sector and an efficient infrastructure to promote exports, while Colombia faces limitations in infrastructure and financing. The research concludes that, to improve its position in the market, Colombia needs to strengthen its public policies and increase investment in technology and logistics.
