La peritonitis infecciosa felina (PIF) es una enfermedad letal provocada por el coronavirus entérico felino (FeCV), un virus de ARN que, aunque infecta hasta el 90% de los gatos, solo el 5% la desarrollan. Esta enfermedad se caracteriza por una diseminación sistémica de los macrófagos y monocitos tras la mutación del virus, cuya causa aún no se comprende completamente, aunque se ha relacionado con la proteína de pico S del virus.
