Debido al evidente aumento de interés e importancia que se les presta a consideraciones bioéticas y que estas se extienden a todos los seres vivientes, en especial temas como el bienestar animal, por los vínculos que se han desarrollado y estrechado especialmente entre mascotas y humanos, llegando a ser considerados miembros importantes de la familia moderna, esto hace que se le dé más importancia al modo en que viven y son tratados, incluida la forma en que deben morir.
