Description
Summary:In this work, the cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris in two environments (salinity and wastewater), and the synthesis of de Fe3O4 and de Fe3O4@PEG nanoparticles by means of ultrasound-assisted coprecipitation were carried out in order to recover the biomass of the microalgae by extracting them magnetically. With the TEM technique, it was observed that both de Fe3O4 and de Fe3O4@PEG nanoparticles are spherical and have a monodisperse diameter of 13.15 ± 1.23 nm and 15.12 ± 0.31 nm. FTIR measurements show the vibrational bands characteristic of de Fe3O4 NPs, and polyethylene glycol coating for the de Fe3O4@PEG system. The VSM technique showed that the nanoparticles present a superparamagnetic behavior with a saturation Magnetization of 72.74 emu/g and 32.25 emu/g for the de Fe3O4 and de Fe3O4 @PEG nanoparticles respectively. Microanalysis was also performed with SEMEDX, of the microalgae alone and functionalized with the nanoparticles observing that the nanoparticles coat the microalgae. To perform the magnetic extraction of the microalgae, they were functionalized with de Fe3O4 and de Fe3O4@PEG nanoparticles, observing that at an OD of 684nm, the values of the absorbances decreased as the mass of nanoparticles increased, showing a lower biomass concentration after functionalization.
