En el municipio de Tello Huila en la última década se ha visto la presencia de los asentamientos informales, en donde tenemos uno de ellos y hasta el momento el único asentamiento, llamado Villa de Río, este asentamiento se sitúa a la ladera del río Villa Vieja, exactamente en su zona de protección, cabe recalcar que este está situado en una zona de alto riesgo de amenaza, poniendo en peligro la vida de esta población, afectando las zonas ambientales del municipio y no permitiendo un desarrollo planificado de el mismo. Esta investigación se hace con la finalidad de conocer cuales son los motivos que llevaron a estas personas a generar acciones de invasión y querer llegar a la conformación de un asentamiento, quienes han tratado de subsistir y se han visto en la necesidad de autoconstruir sus viviendas, sin importar las características que conforman una vivienda digna, esto no solo está afectando la vida de ellos sino a la dinámicas sociales, ambientales y urbanas del municipio.
