El espacio público y el paisaje en Puerto Vallarta han estado ligado al tipo de turismo que se desarrolló en la ciudad (de sol y playa) mismo que ha colocado a esta ciudad como uno de los destinos turísticos más visitados de México. Este trabajo realiza un análisis del paisaje histórico y social del Malecón, espacio público de referencia en esta ciudad, mismo que en el año 2011 se sometió a un proceso de reestructuración con una intervención que le dio una nueva imagen que no es muy coincidente con la de pueblo mexicano que históricamente desarrolló.
