The prevalence of oral diseases, such as dental caries, is high among children in this community, which affects not only their physical health but also their development and quality of life. The lack of health infrastructure, the shortage of specialized health professionals, the language and cultural barrier are obstacles that prevent access to adequate dental care.
This work aims to determine the status of carious lesions in the indigenous children's community, evaluate the rate of dental caries using the DMFT and CEOD index, analyze and promote oral hygiene practices among school children and their parents in the Yukpa community and Implement the application of fluoride in varnish and caries removal using the Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) technique, by understanding and addressing the specific needs of Yukpa children, you can contribute to improving their quality of life and promoting healthy development within their cultural and social environment. |

La salud oral es un componente fundamental del bienestar general, especialmente en las poblaciones vulnerables como las comunidades indígenas, entre estas, la etnia Yukpa, que está ubicada en la ciudad de Cúcuta, específicamente en el barrio El Escobal, estas comunidades enfrentan desafíos significativos en cuanto a su salud oral. Estos desafíos son el resultado de una combinación de factores socioeconómicos, culturales y geográficos que limitan el acceso a servicios de salud adecuados y a programas de prevención y educación sobre higiene oral. Los niños Yukpa, en particular, son un grupo vulnerable. La prevalencia de enfermedades bucales, como la caries dental es alta entre los niños de esta comunidad, lo que afecta no solo su salud física sino también su desarrollo y calidad de vida. La falta de infraestructura sanitaria, la escasez de profesionales de salud especializados, la barrera del idioma y la cultura son obstáculos que impiden el acceso a una atención dental adecuada. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo determinar el estado de las lesiones cariosas en la comunidad indígena infantil, evaluar el índice de caries dental mediante el índice CPOD y CEOD, analizar y promover prácticas de higiene oral entre los niños escolarizados y sus padres en la comunidad Yukpa e implementar la aplicación de flúor en barniz y retiro de caries utilizando la técnica de Tratamiento Restaurativo Atraumático (ART), al comprender y abordar las necesidades específicas de los niños Yukpa, se puede contribuir a mejorar su calidad de vida y promover un desarrollo saludable dentro de su entorno cultural y social.
